How the front entry looked when the project began.

Major amendments and additional soil were imported to improve on the very heavy native soil.

Blending in several soil amendments to improve soil tilth, drainage and organic matter. Additional soil was imported and bermed to create natural drainage and a larger volume of soil for plant roots to exploit. This results in faster growth and healthier trees and plants.

Large decorative boulders were imported to enhance the beauty of the landscaping.

All new drip irrigation including a 'smart' (weather-based) irrigation controller was installed, replacing a drip system that leaked profusely and that required manual adjustments to irrigate in concert with plant needs. In addition, all the sprinkler nozzles for the turf areas around the home were replaced with significantly more efficient nozzles. Overall, the water bill decreased by 75% the first billing period compared with the prior year.

After all the key soil and irrigation work, it's time to plant and mulch.
